Delta Unit Correctional Officers and Employees Week 2018
The Delta Unit staff members celebrated National Correctional Officers and Employees Week 2018 with a barbeque lunch and an awards presentation!
Central Office Correctional Officers and Employees Week 2018
In celebration of National Correctional Officers and Employees Week 2018, the Central Office Employee Association treated staff members to goodies each day of the week, May 7th – 11th, that included muffins, candy, popcorn, ice cream and a hamburger and hot dog cookout!
Commencement Ceremony Held for Arkansas Correctional School District 2017-2018 GED Graduates
The Arkansas Correctional School District held a graduation ceremony at the Ouachita River Correctional Unit for inmates who received a GED during the 2017-2018 academic year on Thursday, May 3, 2018.
Ms. Stacy Leeds, J.D., Interim Vice Chancellor for Economic Development and Dean of the School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, gave the commencement address.
The Arkansas Correctional School District dates back to 1973 with the passage of Act 279 of 1973. The purpose of the act was to provide “elementary, secondary, and vocational technical education to all persons incarcerated in the Department of Correction facilities who are not high school graduates, irrespective of age…” Since 2006, the District has produced more than 8,500 GED graduates, with several hundred more added to that number with the latest graduation!
