Graduation Held for Arkansas Correctional School

Several hundred inmates received their GED and 21 were awarded college degrees at the annual Arkansas Correctional School graduation ceremony held on May 15, 2019 at the Ouachita River Correctional Unit in Malvern. This was the largest GED class in ADC history!

Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. delivered an inspiring commencement address that challenged the graduates to not let their future be determined by their past actions.

ADC Participates in Pop Tab Pandemonium 2019

The Arkansas Department of Correction recently competed in the 11th Annual Pop Tab Pandemonium contest benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Arkansas (RMHCA).

Over the past several months, a number of schools and business/civic groups from across the state competed to collect the most pop tabs to be recycled by the charity. All proceeds from recycling the tabs goes directly to the RMHCA to help sponsor the costs of giving families who have children in the hospital a safe, comfortable, and free place to stay.

The weigh-in for Pop Tab Pandemonium 2019 was held at the Little Rock Zoo on Friday, May 10, 2019. More than 6,000 pounds of pop tabs were collected this year (which equals more than six-million pop tabs)!

The ADC contributed a total of 220 pounds to the cause, with the top three units that participated collecting 123.01 pounds of our total amount collected. Those units were:

• 1st Place – GRIMES UNIT – 55.2 lbs.
• 2nd Place – WRIGHTSVILLE UNIT – 42.65 lbs.
• 3rd Place – CUMMINS UNIT – 25.16 lbs.

Thank you to all of our ADC employees who took the time to pop a tab for such a worthwhile cause!

Blood Drive Held at Admin East

A mobile unit from the Arkansas Blood Institute, a non-profit blood center, visited ADC’s Administrative Annex East office in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on May 9, 2019. Admin East staff really stepped up and not only achieved their goal for number of appointments for the day, but reached their donation goal as well! The blood donated by volunteers who participated in the drive will support patients in 40 Arkansas hospitals. Thank you to ALL who participated in helping to save lives by donating blood.
