Grimes Unit Employees Participate in Race
On Sat., April 7, 2018, Matthew Watson (left), Sgt. Christopher Stump, and Corporal Harmon of the Grimes Unit participated in the 5th Annual Downtown Dash 10K/5K in Little Rock! The theme of the race, which was presented by the Junior League of Little Rock (JLLR), was “Celebrating JLLR’s Super Service in the Community.
Blood Drive Held at Grimes Unit
A blood drive for the American Red Cross was held at the Grimes Unit on April 3, 2018. Those who donated blood were entered into a drawing for $50. Mrs. Sonya Douglas was the lucky winner in the drawing and Deputy Warden Steven Ricketts (left) and Mr. Antonio Garcia presented Mrs. Douglas with a check for $50!
Memorial for Corporal Barbara Ester
The East Arkansas Regional Unit observed a moment of silence in memory of fallen officer Cpl. Barbara Ester on Friday, January 19, 2018.
Cpl. Ester died January 20, 2012 from a fatal stab by an inmate at the East Arkansas Regional Unit.
Though gone from our presence, her memory will forever be etched in the walls of the East Arkansas Unit and her legacy will always be honored by the Arkansas Department of Correction.
2017 Central Office Christmas Dinner
2017 Red Ribbon Run
The 28th Annual Red Ribbon Walk/Run, sponsored by the ADC, was held October 28, 2017 at JRMC Wellness Center in Pine Bluff. We had a total of 183 submissions for the walk/run. The event began with a continental breakfast and music from the Cummins Prison Band. Awards were given to the top three male and female finishers in 12 age divisions. Proceeds from the 5K Run allows a minimum of 5 scholarships to be awarded to graduating high school seniors of ADC/CCS employee children and children in Jefferson County.
