Fellowship Awarded to ADC Psychologist

Congratulations to ADC’s Mike Wood, Ph.D., a supervising psychologist with the Sex Offender Community Notification Assessment Program (SOCNA), for being honored as a Fellow with the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA).

An ATSA fellowship is an honorary designation that recognizes ATSA members who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to their profession and their contributions to the Association.

In a letter addressed to Dr. Wood, the ATSA stated in part, “Your dedication to our organization is greatly appreciated, and your dedication to the field of sexual abuse makes an impact on our community and world. Thank you for all that you do.”

SOCNA Administrator Sheri J. Flynn, MS, LSW, has worked with Dr. Wood for more than 18 years and feels that he brings a lot to both SOCNA and the. She shared, “He has taught me volumes through lengthy discussions, recommended reading, conducting research, and by example. He continues to teach me and our staff daily. We have reason to be very proud and honored to have him.

As a newly-appointed Fellow, Dr. Wood will be publicly recognized at the annual ATSA Annual Research and Treatment Conference planned for October 17- 20, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Congratulations on achieving this great distinction, Dr. Wood!

Ester Unit Correctional Officers and Employees Week 2018

The Ester Unit in Pine Bluff honored their wonderful staff members with a feast of fish and all the trimmings in observance of National Correctional Officers and Employees Week 2018! A cake featuring the image of the late Barbara Ester, for whom the facility was named, was served as well. The ADC K-9 Unit was invited to take part in the celebration in appreciation for all of their hard work and dedication that they demonstrate every time that they are called! When all was said and done, there was so much food remaining that the Ester Unit was able to share with their neighbors at the Randall L. Williams Unit!

Grimes Unit Correctional Officers and Employees Week 2018

The employees at Newport’s Grimes Unit strive for excellence every day. It’s only fitting for their hard work and dedication to be recognized and celebrated during National Correctional Officers and Employees Week observed May 7th-11th! In addition to doughnuts and a meal catered by the Rib Crib in Searcy that was enjoyed by everyone, a drawing to give away six 32” televisions was held! There was a winner from each of the four shifts, as well as two support staff members. Certificates were also awarded to officers selected by their peers from each shift in different recognition categories. All of the efforts served as symbols of gratitude to the officers at Grimes who come to work each day and keep their fellow co-workers, the inmates, and the community safe. A big thank you goes to the unit’s Employee Corporation for the recognition provided to the officers and support staff throughout the week.
