Governor Sanders Signs Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week Proclamation

Posted by Manda Bass on July 24, 2025

This year marks the 25th annual Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision (PPPS) Week, a celebration that originated in 1999 when APPA members began to request that states across the country recognize the valuable employees in community corrections.

In 1999, APPA began lobbying every state to make a proclamation that one week in July is PPPS Week. This was a simple and powerful statement each state could make in celebration of the men and women who spend their days working to improve outcomes, both for the individual AND for the public safety of our communities.

On July 21, 2025, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders proclaimed July 20th through 26th, 2025 as  Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision (PPPS) Week. Governor Sanders stated, “With its theme of “Heroes Behind the Mission; Transforming Lives, Enhancing Public Safety,” PPPS Week is a time to recognize and appreciate the dedicated and brave individuals in Arkansas who work tirelessly to safeguard the citizens.”

The Arkansas Department of Corrections wants our staff to know how much we appreciate the job they do every day to help keep our communities safe. We are thankful for our incredible community supervision professionals who are building stronger communities by helping to bridge the gap between the judicial system and our communities. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication you show daily.

Read the proclamation below:

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS COME – GREETINGS:

WHEREAS: Community Supervision Officers and Agents are an essential part of the Arkansas justice system and must perform at the highest level to ensure the safety of the public and hold the offenders under supervision accountable; and

WHEREAS: Community Supervision professionals help drive significant, positive changes in our state by providing the appropriate supervision and helping offenders find positive solutions to challenges and difficulties they may face; and

WHEREAS: Everyday, Community Supervision professionals conduct demanding yet essential work to help change the trajectory of the lives of more than 70,000 individuals in Arkansas working to live productively in society, while simultaneously holding them accountable for their behavior; and

WHEREAS: Community Supervision Officers work collaboratively with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, treatment providers, and social and employment services to provide prevention, intervention, and a second chance for returning offenders; and

WHEREAS: The Protect Arkansas Act of 2023 tasked Community Supervision Officer with enacting evidence-based practices to reduce the rates of reoffending, increase public safety, and ensure an opportunity for redemption upon returning to society; and

WHEREAS: With its theme of “Heroes Behind the Mission; Transforming Lives, Enhancing Public Safety,” National Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week is a time to recognize and appreciate the dedicated and brave individuals in Arkansas who work tirelessly to safeguard the citizens.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, Governor of the State of Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby proclaim July 20 through 26, 2025, as

“PRETRIAL, PROBATION, AND PAROLE SUPERVISION WEEK”
